Inner City 100 Business Awards:

An explosion in the house building industry in St Helens is good news for Phil Leech whose company designs, manufactures and installs bedroom furniture.
Phil Leech, a time served joiner, set up member company Leech Bedrooms just eight years ago and in that time has seen it grow into a thriving business that recently featured 47th in the Inner City 100 small business awards.

"The business seems to have evolved just naturally," explained Phil, who runs the company with his wife Pam and brothers-in-law Mike and Tony Brandwood.  "We now deliver our bedrooms across the country and the bulk of our work is through word of mouth, although we have recently set up a website to promote our products and company"

The company which employs around 13 people, has a factory and showroom on Beaufort Street in Peasley Cross and specialises in fitted bedrooms and sliding mirror doors.

"We work closely with our customers to give them exactly what they're looking for," explained Phil who decided to specialise in bedroom furniture after realising a flair for it whilst working as a joiner.

As much as possible we try to offer a bespoke service and we will undertake a design from scratch.  There are lots of combined bedroom and kitchen companies but our expertise is in bedrooms and I believe we are probably one of the biggest bedroom manufacturers."

The 6,500sq ft factory and showroom is based on two floors, full of designer fitted bedrooms.  "We could do with some more room but have no immediate plans to expand or relocate," says Phil who attributes his company's success to 'good staff who keep pace with the industry."

"We are a family-run business offering a personal service, which sets us apart from many of the large chain retailers.  We aim to provide a quality and friendly service, if you don't put the effort in, you don't get it back." g
